Blackland Prairie
Fertile “black gumbo” soils up to 300’ deep. Gently rolling to nearly level. Elevations from 300’ to 800’ ASL. Best farmlands in early Texas Anglo settlements were located here. The region supported diverse crops, including King Cotton. Texas’ biggest cities centered in the Blacklands due to historic agricultural productivity. 28” to 40” rainfall.
