Scarlet sage may be grown anywhere in Texas. However, it will act like an annual in the northern part of the state. This sage will take about any conditions you want to give it, even part shade. But if you give it rich soil and lots of water, you may just hate it, because it can grow pretty rank and coarse. It is most effective used as a ground cover in dappled shade. It can even be mowed at a high setting; it just gets thicker. Scarlet sage blooms from May to frost, but is most spectacular in the fall. Be sure to let it seed out in the fall before you mow it down, and it will reseed itself readily. Remember that hummingbirds are attracted to large clumps of red flowers! Please note all Native American Seed is produced in USA!
