Slim Tridens Tridens muticus
This warm-season, perennial bunch grass is incredibly drought tolerant with purple tinged
seeds. Broad range over most of Texas (except Pineywoods) and populations in Oklahoma
and New Mexico. Excellent germination and quick coverage. This early successional native
has great value in soil stabilization and is considered an increaser on rangelands. Seed heads
occur on 20” long, slender stems and offer a food source for birds and wildlife year-round
when moisture is available. Great addition to wildflower meadows and other native plantings.

Southwestern Bristlegrass Setaria scheelei
Knee to thigh high warm-season bunchgrass. Commonly found in dappled shade of wooded
limestone canyons under mesquites, oaks and urban side yards. Abundant in central Texas.
We’ve observed many small songbirds such as grasshopper sparrows and painted buntings
foraging on the seeds in our fields. These native millet-type seeds are fantastic source of
nutrition for small mammals too.
