It has been said, “The roadsides may become the last
Open Spaces that we have. We view our world now
through the windshield. The roadside is a reflection
of who we are.” Why not keep these threads of
beauty as they once were? Offered for everyone who
would like to keep the land responsibly beautiful. Just
the right mixture of annuals and perennials for quick
establishment and sustainable plantings. Low to
medium heights at maturity allow good visibility
over the top of the plants. Allow plants to reseed
before mowing for year-after-year native blooms.
“I converted my entire lawn to TX-OK Roadside Mix.
Flowering plants native to your area are much more
resilient to weather conditions than ‘traditional’
flowers. If you are able to sow seed dense enough,
many of the weeds will be choked out by the plants
you love. In the end, it leaves you with a realization
that the stuff for sale at big box stores is total junk.
If anyone has problems with neighbors, as I did, I
encourage them to not back down. They reported me
to code enforcement and demanded I mow it down. I
was persistent and requested a hearing with the chief
code inspector. Most of my issues disappeared after
that. But I did have to remove plants from the area
between my sidewalk and the road. Ironically, my
neighbor still complains from a porch decorated with
bees and butterflies. People need to get used to
this being commonplace. Plant as many
wildflowers on your property as you want.”
