A native legume that is often found on prairies, and abundant in times of above-average 
rainfall. This plant is highly palatable to livestock and the seeds are an important food source

This dependable bloomer shows its golden heads throughout the year after adequate rainfall. 
Often found growing in shallow soils, the ripened seeds are a food source for the painted 
bunting. Also a good larval host for butterflies, it is found from Arkansas across to Colorado 
and down to Mexico.

beaches northward through Oklahoma and beyond. It is easy to grow in mixtures of

with fireflies. State flower of Oklahoma.
