Tall Dropseed

Sporobolus compositus var. asper - Plain, non-descript green grass. Drought tolerant fibrous roots. One of those discreet, but important species that feed handsome grasshoppers of all varieties, then birds of all kinds are too fed. Hides its abundant tiny seeds, wrapped in the leaf sheaths. Prairie birds consume its seeds in winter.
