Found along stream banks and in wet areas. Thrives in disturbed lands. In flower gardens, it can be cut back in the early summer to encourage more blooms. It can be distinguished from other sneezeweeds by its round, purplish center disk. The leaves and flowerheads were used in the treatment of colds and congestion by inducing sneezing. Warning: It is toxic to cattle.
