A tough, drought-tolerant annual known for its airy clusters of small yellow blooms perched on slender stems. It thrives in open fields, roadsides, and disturbed soils, especially in Central and West Texas. Attracts a wide variety of pollinators, including native bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects. Its late-summer color and easy reseeding make it a valuable part of restoration projects, prairie plantings, and wildflower meadows. The leaves and flower heads were used in the treatment of colds and congestion by inducing sneezing. Toxic to cattle.
