High Plains

Photo circa 1897: Buffalo wallow before native grasses were plowed under.  Historically was a shortgrass prairie dominated by buffalograss. Below ground is one of the planet’s largest, the Ogallala Aquifer. Migrating waterfowl rely on the seasonal playa lakes (shallow depressions). 10” - 20" rain mostly in Apr-May & Sept-Oct.
