Windflowers grow from a corm and are one of the very first flowers to bloom in the spring. They develop their rosettes of leaves in the fall and winter, and start blooming in February. When the flower is done, and the seeds begin to form, they send their stems high above the foliage and the surrounding plants. The early spring winds whisk away the seeds as they ripen, and send them dancing across the prairie. You have to be fast to pick these seeds!
