Short, drought tolerant and eye catching warm-season grass with a large geographic distribution in Texas. One of the earliest grasses to flower in spring. Important for native Harvester ants who collect the seeds and in turn the Texas Horned Lizard who relies on these native plant structures as nesting material. Texas Grama can be found in grasslands, open woods, roadsides, dry plains, rocky hills, and abused overgrazed ranges.
