A bunchgrass that grows 1 to 2 feet in height and produces a dense, deep root system. Sand Lovegrass grows best on sandy land in the 18 to 35 inch rain belt, but is sometimes planted on heavier soils. This lovegrass starts growth several weeks before other warm season grasses which is very important to grazing animals. Seedhead is loose and open and stands 2 feet above the grass in early fall. It reproduces by seeds and roots. Sand Lovegrass prefers full sun.
