Named for its green, thread-like foliage, this dependable bloomer shows its golden heads throughout the year after adequate rainfall. Often found growing in shallow soils, the ripened seeds are a food source for the multi-colored painted bunting. It does not appear to be favored by deer. Also a good larval and nectar plant for butterflies. The crushed leaves have a pleasant aroma and have been used for tea. Found as far north and east as Arkansas across to Colorado and down to Mexico.
