Rhizomatous perennial, grows in disturbed, wet habitat. Large, grain-like seeds provide dependable food source for birds including quail, dove and turkey from late summer into winter. Good for erosion control in swales and along waterways. Leaves have tint of blue and are nice to look at. Range is from Texas to the Atlantic coast.
